What is Flow Metric History?
Flow Metric History is a powerful backlink checker tool that allows SEOs and digital marketers to track changes in Trust Flow and Citation Flow over time. The data provides a historical view of a domain's backlink profile to understand the stability and strength of a websites backlinks. With data available from 2016, you can spot trends and benchmark your performance and that of your competitors to make informed decisions on how to approach link building and digital PR campaigns.
The Data
Flow Metric History looks and feels very much like the other backlink comparison tools available with Majestic. To use it, enter at least two or as many as ten domains in the search box. It will return three charts.
The chart in the upper left-hand corner of the graphic is very similar to the Campaigns Screen. To the right, there are two time graphs - The top one is the variation of Trust Flow while the bottom one shows Citation Flow values over time.
Some sites tend to have higher levels of fluctuation of Trust Flow than others. Knowing the "most common" Trust Flow and Citation Flow scores over time is more valuable and reliable than knowing the current values of these metrics. Flow Metric History charts identify “modal” (most common) scores for a site. This data can help domainers and SEOs engaged in link building make better, more accurate decisions.
Flow Metric History is a backlink checker tool that can help SEOs and digital marketers identify the mode of a domain as its underlying “strength”. At the same time, the fact that some domains' values of Trust Flow fluctuate more than others provides an interesting conundrum: knowing why this happens can improve ones understanding of a domain.
Trust Flow and Citation Flow Metrics Explained
Trust Flow
Trust Flow is a metric that evaluates the quality of a website's backlinks based on the trustworthiness of the sites linking to it. Trust Flow is calculated by analysing a set of peer-reviewed seed sites known for their authority. Websites closely linked to these highly authoritative sites will have a higher value of Trust Flow. This metric helps identify the best prospects for a link-building campaign because they can enhance a site's reputation and boost direct and organic traffic.
Citation Flow
Citation Flow assesses a website's influence based on the number of backlinks. However, it does not consider their quality. For example, a site may have many backlinks and, therefore, a high value of Citation Flow. Still, they may not positively impact Trust Flow because they may come from less credible sources.
A Comprehensive View of Backlink Profiles
Understanding the relationship between Trust Flow and Citation Flow is crucial. A balanced score between these two metrics indicates a healthy backlink profile. Websites with a balanced ratio between Trust Flow and Citation Flow are ideal link building candidates and should be analysed to understand their influence by evaluating Topical Trust Flow.
